In the county of San Diego, we have 6 major undergraduate universities, 8 California Community Colleges, along with technical colleges, and graduate programs educating hundreds of thousands of students.
Despite the excellent degrees and programs being offered we are missing one. None of these programs is providing access to undergraduate or advanced degrees in maritime related businesses.
Maritime industries in San Diego employ 47,000 people in full time jobs that pay well (not minimum wage), provide health and retirement benefits and directly contribute over $14 Billion dollars to our local GDP.
We have 7,500 hundred veterans being discharged honorably in San Diego county every year, and these men and women needs jobs they are qualified to fill to remain an important part of the fabric of our community.
