San Diego is a buzz about OurGenY! …. Congratulations Chris Joseph and OurGenY for a successful event!

On Saturday, March 8, 2014 young leaders from across San Diego gathered at the city’s New Central Library to foster new collaboration between the attendees, speakers, and sponsors. OurGenY’s inaugural event, For Us, By Us, collected leaders from San Diego’s nonprofit, public, athletic, and private sectors to reflect on achievements and plan a course for improving the city’s ability to attract young, ambitious individuals who are trying to become tomorrow’s top professionals. For Us, By Us was held with the goal to unite a generation by inspiring, encouraging, and bettering budding professional leaders

What is OurGenY about? The group hopes to host more and more networking and presentation events for new professionals just beginning their working careers. The organization is aiming to make it easier for new professionals to evolve into community leaders at an early age by connect the newest working generation with more established businessmen, businesswomen, and special interest activists.

The founders, Chris Joseph, Rachel McKinney, Jess Mattson and Patrick Joseph, are all young professionals in the local San Diego community. They are committed to supporting their peers’ career aspiration through continuing to grow OurGenY.

One of the panelists included San Diego’s Chief of Police, “I am thrilled to be here. We are actively recruiting and actively hiring from Generation Y. We are one community,” said Shelley Zimmerman. With 18 speakers, sponsors, and presenters from the EDC and 2024 Olympic Bid Committee, it was clear that much of San Diego feels the same way about GenY taking more leadership roles in the community and workforce.
