Poke It, San Diego’s “Most Innovative Poke Concept” Opens its Doors in Hillcrest

Poke It decided on Hillcrest for their flagship location due to its vibrancy, high foot traffic, and a demographic that is receptive to new food trends.

A new fast-casual poke restaurant, Poke It, recently opened in Hillcrest. When you visit this 1,500 SF restaurant located at 690 University, You will most likely say, “this is not your average poke spot”.

The modern-tropical vibe is very welcoming and evokes the sense of high energy, clean food, and comfortable seating. The menu is extensive with many unique food items you’ve probably never heard of before, especially for Hillcrest! Just think… a Mexican/Asian twist with premium raw ingredients. The menu features ribeye sandwiches on a fried rice bun “Ricetadas” and top-grade tuna. Or the burrito comprised of nori roll, rice and your choice of protein. I ordered the Salmon Ricetadas with Greek Tzatziki – all of which are truly creative. I also had the Pastor Tacos. These were similar to the Mexican tacos with achiote chile and pineapple with a crispy nori shell. It may sound foreign to you but,  as they say, “fortune favors the brave” and you will be pleasantly rewarded. Poke It offers a selection of wine and premium sake.

Calder Conrad represented the tenant in the transaction. According to Conrad, Poke It identified four submarkets in San Diego to launch this new concept. They decided on Hillcrest for their flagship location due to its vibrancy, high foot traffic, and a demographic that is receptive to new food trends. This concept is the first from experienced restauranteur, Sarah Abadi, who plans to open several locations in San Diego. Abadi and her family signed a 5-year lease in April 2017 and invested significant capital in tenant improvements prior to opening.
