Philanthropic Multi-Tasking
When I was nominated onto the Leadership Board of the ALA two years ago, I was compelled to take the position, due to my lifelong personal struggle with lung deficiencies…
Sunday, November 8th was not your average “Lazy Sunday.” I started off my morning by participating in the American Lung Association (ALA)’s LungForce Walk, representing McKinney Capital & Advisory. Due to my involvement as Co-Chair of the Walk Committee, I was introduced to the participants of the walk via an on-stage announcement and then began walking with one of my fellow McKinney team members. Shortly thereafter, I ran off (literally!) to work the phones at the KPBS HOPE Telethon in support of the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC). My introductions to both these organizations occurred through my time with McKinney Capital & Advisory.
When I was nominated onto the Leadership Board of the ALA two years ago, I was compelled to take the position, due to my lifelong personal struggle with lung deficiencies and moderate asthma attacks. After facing numerous ‘catch-my-breath’ experiences, I not only understand, but value, the simplicity and importance of breath. This year, I was asked to be the Co-Chair on the ALA LungForce Walk Committee. For several weekends, I sought out potential vendors for the walk along with my Co-Chair, Sydney from SDG&E. This Annual event raised over $150,000 for the organization.
And, when I adopted my adorable cat, Jasmine from the HWAC almost five years ago, who knew I would have the opportunity to raise funds for a cause so meaningful to my life. What a coincidence having Damian McKinney introducing me to the CEO of the HWAC, Michael Arms. Once I heard Mike’s story, I immediately wanted to get involved – animals are helpless, and they need us to advocate for and support them. I was so excited when I was asked to assist with the HOPE Telethon this year. Through answering phones and collecting donations, together we raised more than $473,000. It was rewarding to know that I was able to make a difference.
At the end of the day, I felt a sense of fulfillment from being able to lend a helping hand to two causes that hold a special place in my heart. I genuinely wish for everyone to find something in their lives for which they feel so passionate about and gives them a purpose.
